Per Merriam-Webster: a person having a superficial interest in an art or a branch of knowledge : dabbler
Or as I heard at another time: One who participates in something in which they have no particular competence.
When I first entered DA, I thought that I had some work at least, expressive.
The more that I have learned, the more that I find that my work does not adequately express my own intent.
So I have decided to define my casual pursuits as a dilletante.
I am not a photographer, I take pictures.
I do not sketch, I doodle.
I do not play harmonica, I play at harmonica.
Accepting my limited skills, frees me to do as I wish without the annoyance of reflection.
I welcome all of those of limited skills to join me in the joy of being a dilletante.
As they say, ignorance truly is bliss.
